Dad found the truck online, bought it without inspection and was not sure how to get it home from Barstow Cali. ;) It's a 1956 GMC 2.5 ton Shop Van truck. M220 is the mil designation. It has 9980 original miles on it. This truck and the M-35 like my deuce were made at the same time until the M-35 took over for good. It has a 302 cid GMC inline 6 and a Hydromatic Trans. The tranny is real cool. It has a high range and low range in the auto tranny. No need for a two speed transfer case. Turns out the truck spent most of it's life on the Yuma Proving Grounds with the Harry Diamond Research Laboratories. Hence why it was painted white. Harry Diamond was the guy that created the proximity fuse for artillery shells, mortar shells and naval guns in WWII. It was said of his discoveries that the proximity fuse was the most important technological advancement second only to the atomic bomb in WWII.......BTW we fired the truck up and it purrs like a kitten. Brakes need some work though.

That thing is cool! I love the war wagon painted on it. That truck is a gas fed six or is it multi fuel like most of the rest of them seem to be?

It's got WarWagon painted on it in several places and under the older white paint. It is a "gasser" as the gasoline powered trucks are reffered to. A lot of the early 2.5's and 5 tons were gassers. One of the guys in the MVCC has a 1954 5 ton M54 that is a gasser. In the mid to late 50's they started to convert the fleet to diesel which was a multifuel engine. Waste motor oil, gas, diesel, veggie oil. They just did not run on 100 octane LL av gas.

My M-35 has the multifuel engine. There are a lot of guys that run the multi's exclusively on WMO. They centrofuge it first, filter it and put it in the tank. They smoke pretty good but seem to run fine on it.

I don't know about you, but I don't call an "intervention" an "ambush". They are two different things. Similar, but different........... :flipoff2:
