Moab EJS 2010 trip report. This year Poolboy decided to go to Moab for the 2010 EJS. I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along as a passenger. A couple of friends, Jeff and Shelly were able to bring out a buggy so we had a contingent of two rigs. We decided to camp at Area BFE. This was a grand choice. We were able to pitch our tent right on the edge on the canyon that drops into the entrance to Helldorado. We could also see across the canyon to the trails Green Day, Minor Threat and Lockjaw. I have to say this was probably the coolest place I had been in Moab. Multiple trails emminating out of a central drop in area. There is one road that leads down from the camping area into the dry wash where the majority of the trails start. Helldorado, Minor Threat, Green Day and Lockjaw all start from this point. That's the good and bad part. Good because you do not have to drive 20 miles to get to a new trail. Bad because there is one basic way into and out of the starting point. The road down is one lane and traffic coming uphill has the right of way. Therefore when it is busy you might have to wait a few minutes for the upcoming traffic. Really though it is not much of a sacrifice compared to what is awaiting you. All the trails have an obstacle after obstacle feeling. Not 5 miles of road in between obstacles like on the other trails. Oh, and did I mention this is all on private land? Yep that's right. You can relax and enjoy the trails without worrying if you are doing something wrong in some obscure rulebook that you are going to get a ticket for. One just has to remeber to self regulate. Don't go tearing off into areas that don't have trails. Don't leave trash. Don't do anything stupid. OK. Don't do anything too stupid. Be respectful of your fellow man, woman and child. Basically treat the place like your own back yard. Oh, and did I mention that there is no entry fee? They just work off of donations. How cool is that? Oh, did I mention that for big event weekends they bring out self powerd light towers so you can play on the obstacles in next to the parking areas? That's right. I forgot to mention that they have a ton of stuff to play on right next to where you camp.Area BFE is a really cool place with a really cool vibe. I think I will want to headquarter out of there for all of my Moab trips. It's not like you can't just drive down the road a few miles to get to other trails. Behind the Rocks is just across the road from where you turn off to go to Area BFE. So basically we had an awesome time, the trails were fabulous and the camping was great. Thanks Poolboy for hauling me out there and thanks to Jeff and Shelly for bringin' the food. Especially the Angus burgers we had. That's what I'm talkin about. |
